JAMMU, Sept 22: Congress-NC candidate for Jammu East, Yogesh Sawhney, ex-MLA and former Minister has intensified his election campaign in Jammu East, raising several key issues of smart meters, property tax, surge in electricity bills etc as markers of economic exploitation by current regime.
Addressing gatherings across the constituency, Sawhney particularly voiced strong opposition to the imposition of property taxes, stating that it is exacerbated the already dire economic situation of the people.
Sawhney highlighted that QR codes have been installed on houses as part of the taxation system, a move which he says is an attempt at further control by the current regime.
“The people of Jammu are already under immense financial pressure, and these taxes are just another way to squeeze the middle classes and poor. This must stop immediately,” Sawhney asserted during a rally.
He further criticized the government for its series of unpopular policies, including the installation of smart electricity meters, and warned of the anticipated introduction of water meters. “It is evident that the present Government is not working for the welfare of the people, but to economically exploit them. We cannot allow this exploitation to continue,” Sawhney added.
The former Minister further said, the property tax, along with the prospect of new charges for basic utilities, is hurting the middle class and working-class families the most. “People are struggling to make ends meet, and instead of providing relief, the Government is burdening them further,” he said, urging voters to push for a change in governance.
“Economic exploitation cannot and should not be the foundation of governance. The people deserve better,” Sawhney said, calling for a decisive change in the upcoming elections to put an end to these burdensome policies. The Congress party remains committed to the cause, with property tax, smart meters, and the looming threat of water meters being few of the many concerns of people and to provide real, tangible relief to the people of Jammu East.
