JAMMU, Dec 18: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, Jammu Division, organized a march from Bahu Plaza to Ambedkar Chowk against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC, under the leadership of district president of the Confederation, Ch Shafi Bajad.
Like minded, secular citizens carrying placards and banners marched from Bahu Plaza to Ambedkar Chowk and stood under the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar to oppose the unconstitutional CAA and NRC.
RK Kalsotra, State president of the Confederation, said that NRC created havoc in Assam and now the Government is planning a nationwide NRC. While we do not have any problem with strengthening National security and removing infiltrators, we certainly oppose how the vulnerable sections and minorities are also dragged in the list.
“The official documents and records required for proving citizenship are not made by vulnerable sections, due to social-economic backwardness and this is posing a problem for religious as well as social minorities which are no less than 19 lakhs (12 lakhs SC/ST/OBCs and 7 lakhs Muslims).
Ch Shafi Bajad said that the Act was made with no involvement of the stakeholders and its main aim is to create communal disharmony among people whereas Advocate JA Kazmi said that India has been a land of Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits and other minorities, but CAA and NRC tries to destroy the secularism and brotherhood in India.
Others who spoke were Bhima Azad (youth leader), Shashi Syal, Sham Lal Bhasin, Vicky Kumar, Satpal Bhagat, Lakshman Bhagat, Naseeb Kumar, Arun Kumar and Gourav Karlupia.
