JAMMU, Oct 15: Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor registered win over Rayal Cricket Club (RCC) Akhnoor by 11 runs in a nail biting inaugural match of the Veterans Cricket Cup Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor, today.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, SCC scored 134 runs by losing 5 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Joginder Mangotra was the top scorer with 32 runs off 30 balls, while Deepak Sharma chipped in 27 runs in 23 balls and Rajinder Sharma scored 19 runs off 34 balls.
From RCC side, Anil Sharma and Sanjeev shared 2 wickets each, while Devinder Chanan took one wicket.
In reply, RCC failed to chase the target and bundled out at 123 runs by losing 9 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Shindi played a magnificent inning of 58 runs off 39 balls, while Ajay Saraf 14 made 14 runs in 25 balls.
From SCC side, Sham Singh Langeh proved his bowling mettle and scalped 4 wickets, while Rajinder Sharma and Vinay Spolia shared 2 wickets each. Sonu Malhotra also took one wicket.
Sham Singh Langeh of Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor was adjudged as ‘Man of the Match’.
Earlier, Sham Lal Sharma, Senior Vice President, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) inaugurated the tournament in presence of large number of spectators including sports lovers.
While speaking, Sham Lal said that sports plays pivotal role for the overall development of the body. Every student should participate in the sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit, he added.
“Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor is regularly organizing cricket tournaments, which will help the players to exhibit their talent”, he said and appealed the youth to stay away from the drugs as it will ruin their future and will also affect their family life.
The tournament is being organized by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, President of the Club.
Among others present were Deepak Manni, Dalbir Singh, Subash Langer, Som Raj, KD Sharma, Naresh Dutt, Raman Sharma, Deepak Mangotra and Suresh Kumar.
