JAMMU, Jan 19: Outplaying star studded Vicky Cricket Club (VCC) Pathankot by 4 wickets in the summit clash, the strong team of Sabi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur lifted the title trophy of the 4th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Tournament, which concluded at District Sports Stadium, Kathua today.
Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams amidst huge crowd in an impressive function, while IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar Yadav was the guest of honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were DIG Shakeel Ahmed Beig; SP Mohan Lal; SP Yogesh Sharma and SP RK Bhat, Principal PTS Kathua.
Earlier, batting first, Vicky Cricket Club Pathankot, which was represented by former International cricketer Dinesh Mongia, scored a decent total of 148 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Sarul Kanwar and Jaskaran Singh and Dinesh Mongia scored 51, 41 and 24 runs respectively.
In reply, SCC Pathankot chased the target in 19.1 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Jhonty top scored with unbeaten 49 runs off 41 balls, while Pargat Singh contributed 33 runs to the total. Jhonty was adjudged man of the match for this brilliant knock and was awarded a cash prize of 11,000 by Naresh Sharma, Ex-president Municipal Council Kathua. Prince of Sandhu Cricket Club, Ludhiana was declared man of the series for scoring 191 runs and scalping 6 wickets in the tournament. For this achievement, he was awarded a Maruti 800 AC car sponsored by Satyam Cement and TMT Saria. Pargat Singh of SCC Hoshiarpur and Sarul Kanwar of Vicky CC Pathankot were declared best bowler and best batsman respectively to receive a cash prize of Rs 21,000 each.
Meanwhile, the winners SCC Ludhiana apart from trophies and individual prizes were presented a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, sponsored by Chenab Textile Mills, Kathua and the runners-up team received a cash prize of Rs 1,50, 000.
While speaking on the occasion, chief guest Ashok Prasad lauded the efforts of the organizers-‘Shaheedi Welfare Committee, Kathua’ for holding this cricketing extravaganza and said that such events apart from promoting sports help in eradicating drug and others social menace from the society.
