Schools, colleges to remain closed

JAMMU, Sept 7:  In view of the prevailing situation due to flash floods, the State Government has ordered further closure of schools and colleges for four and two days, respectively while the class work in Jammu University and SKUAST-Jammu will remained suspended for two days and a week, respectively.
As per an order, issued today by the Secretary School Education, all the Government as well as private schools of the State shall remain close for a period of four days from September 8 to September 11 and shall reopen on September 12.
According to Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu, all the colleges across Jammu division shall remain close for two days i.e. on September 8 and 9.
The Jammu University has announced that the class work will remain suspended on September 8 and 9 while all the examinations, scheduled to be held on these two days, also stand postponed. Fresh dates for the postponed exams would be notified separately.
Class work in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu will remain suspended for a period of one week as the unprecedented rains and massive floods have severely damaged infrastructure of the university campus at Chatha and R S Pura.
The flash floods during the intervening night of September 5-6 in the Balol Nallah, Chatha flooded the whole campus of SKUAST-J. These flash floods caused extensive damage to physical infrastructure, laboratories and equipments besides experimental farms. State of the art Automatic Weather Observatory (Agrometerology) of the University was extensively damaged by the flash floods. Massive damage has also been caused to experimental glass houses, net houses and high-tech poly houses.
The R S Pura Campus also suffered massive damage due to these rains. The KVKs /Research Stations at Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri also could not escape the fury of nature. The KVK, Reasi situated at Dera Baba Tanda at the bank of Chenab River has been extensively damaged and the scientists and other staff working there were evacuated by the district administration.
