*Army provides mega platform to budding cricketers

JAMMU, Oct 20: Zorawar Stadium at Sunjuwan Military Station witnessed the scintillating opening ceremony of Phase-II of Jagruk Hindustani Premier Cricket League (JHPCL), here today.
The League is being held analogous to World famous Indian Premier League (IPL) and is unquestionably providing an extraordinary platform to budding cricketers to help them showcase their talent and hone their skill.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Maj General Sanjeev Narain, Tiger Division.
Earlier, after a grueling selection process in Phase-I, under respective border formations, a total of six teams emerged as the Super Six’ teams which are participating in the Phase-II of the League, The final match of which will be played on October 26, 2015.
The chief guest and the other Army dignitaries said, “The players are appreciative of the gesture of the Indian Army and look forward to more such events to encourage the local talent while bonding closely with the security forces.”
“The JHPCL has been planned by the Indian Army to draw the ever vigil and alert border youth of Jagruk Hindustanis, towards this appealing T20 format of cricket. The youth in the border areas of Jammu region have been very helpful in assisting the Security Forces in deterring terrorists from infiltration. These alert citizens or ‘Jagruk Hindustanis’ are the future of the country to whom this event is dedicated while motivation them to maintain vigil and alertness to increase their bonding with the Indian Army,” they added.
Earlier, RS Pura Arsenals defeated Kathua Kings in aclose contest by 2 wickets. Batting first, Kathua Kings scored a paltry total of 73 runs by losing 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, while in reply, RS Pura Arsenals scored 76/8 in 18.5 overs, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Jagjot Singh of RS Pura Arsenals was adjudged as man of the match for scoring valuable 27 runs.
In another match, Samba Sunrisers defeated BD Bari Tigers in a thrilling contest via super over.
Batting first, Samba Sunrisers scored a fighting total of 136 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process, while in reply, BD Bari Tigers also made 136 runs in the allotted 20 overs, thus the match ended in a draw and the result was only possible through super over, wherein Samba Sunrisers emerged winners. Shashi Chib of Samba Sunrisers was declared as man of the match for scoring 14 runs in 4 balls and taking one important wicket.
Earlier, in the match after the opening ceremony, RS Pura Arsenals drubbed Jammu Janbaz by 4 wickets. Batting first, Jammu Janbaz scored a modest total of 94 runs in 18.2 overs.
In reply, RS Pura Arsenals managed to scored 95 runs by losing 6 wickets in 18.2 overs to win the match by 4 wickets. Amandeep Singh was adjudged man of the match for scoring unbeaten 25 runs and scalping 2 important wickets.
The inaugural match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and JD Singh as umpires, while Ashwani Kumar was the scorer. RP Singh was the commentator.
