Excelsior Sports CorrespondentJAMMU, Nov 7: The Secretary to the Government, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Sarmad Hafeez, officially opened the 68th National School Games at a vibrant ceremony at MA Stadium, Jammu. The event, showcasing Under-17 Judo for boys, is part of a series that includes Judo, Wushu, Fencing and Football, highlighting J&K as a premier sports venue.
With 35 teams and 350 athletes from across India, the Games celebrate competition and camaraderie. The event began with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by a welcome address by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara, who welcomed participants and expressed hope they would cherish their experience in J&K.
Tara highlighted the scale of the Games, sharing that over 4,000 participants will compete in various disciplines, reflecting J&K’s commitment to nurturing young athletes and promoting sports across the Union Territory.
In his address, Secretary YSS, Sarmad Hafeez, lauded the achievements of the Youth Services and Sports Department and expressed pride in the activities they organize to foster sportsmanship, unity and camaraderie among young athletes. Hafeez emphasized that the Games spotlight J&K’s infrastructure, hospitality, and potential as a national sports destination, which will inspire more events in the future.
Several distinguished officials attended the opening, including DIG Police and Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, who joined the celebrations and conveyed their best wishes to the young athletes.
Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Ved Prakash and Deputy Director YSS (C), Jitendra Mishra, were also present on the occasion.
