Section 144 imposed after protest against encroachment

UDHAMPUR, May 16: Following a strong protest by the locals against alleged encroachment of the State land near Shiv Mandir at Garhi Rehambal , Police imposed Section 144 CrPC around the disputed area and also deployed cops  there to avoid any untoward incident of clash.
The trouble erupted this afternoon after a large number of locals held a strong protest against the alleged encroachment  of  State land near Shiv temple and demanded action against the  defaulter. They  also marched towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office besides staging a  protest on the National Highway at Garhi and blocking the  road for around  two hours. Former  MLA Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia and BJP State secretary Pawan Khajuria also joined the protestors and raised slogans along with them  demanding immediate action.
On getting the information,  SSP Udhampur Suleman Choudhary along with other Police officers  rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting people  by assuring necessary action as well as removing the encroachment.
“To avoid any untoward incident or clash at the disputed site, we have imposed Section 144 CrPC in the area and also deployed policemen till the concerned Revenue authorities clarify on  ownership of  the land,” the SSP said.
