Selection trials for BRICS Games, 10th Asian Wushu C’ship today

JAMMU, May 2: The Wushu Association of India will hold the final selection trials for the Indian team on May 3 and 4 at Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar Jammu, ahead of the highly anticipated BRICS Games and 10th Asian Wushu Championship.
In 2024, Macau (China) will host the 10th Asian Wushu Championship from September 9 to 16, and Kazan (Russia) will host the BRICS Games from June 11 to 17. There will be trials for both the male and female teams of India.
Kuldeep Handoo, the Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach of India, stated: “The two-day selection trial in Jammu is involving about 200 Wushu athletes from all affiliated units. During the selection trial, some of the top athletes, including World Champions and Arjuna Award winners, will be seen in action”.
He added, “Current International Wushu Federation Athlete of the year 2023, 19th Asian Games Silver Medalist and Arjun Awardee Roshibina Devi will be seen in action. It is for the first time that the selection trials for the prestigious events are taking place in the city of temples, Jammu. Earlier Wushu Association of India had organized National Wushu coaching camp in 2011, 2013 and 2023 at Gulmarg and Srinagar respectively.”
“J&K Sports Council has recently procured the latest Wushu equipment for both centres, resultant J&K is becoming hub for the Wushu events. The deadline for the entry by name for the BRICS games is 15th May 2024. The Open selection trial will be held for the 10th Asian Wushu Championship in which around 45 to 50 athletes will be shortlisted for the National Wushu coaching camp, the final selection trial for the Championship will be held on the month of July ending or 1st week of August 2024 to finalize the Indian Wushu team for championship at Macau.
The Wushu Association of India has finalized the selection committee, which is headed by president of the Wushu Association of India Jitender Singh, Suhel Ahmed (Member), Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo and National Chief Coach of India (Member), International Player and Awardee as Members and observer from Sports Authority of India. The Wushu Association of India has invited ITO’s and NTO’s for the smooth and successful conduct of the selection trial.
