JAMMU, Nov 21: Semifinals position has been cleared as Banda Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch and Namdhari Hockey Club Jeevan Nagar has sealed berth in the last four stage in the ongoing 2nd Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament, being organized by Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
Now, in the 1st semifinal, J&K Police Central Hockey team will clash with Banda Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch at 1pm tomorrow, while in the 2nd semifinal Namdhari Hockey Club will take on Guru Nanak Hockey Club at 2:30 pm.
Earlier, in the 1st match played today, Banda Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch, which is being represented by the players from outside the State also, defeated Star XI Pathankot by six goals to one (6-1) in an easy contest. The 1st goal from Poonch was scored by Manpreet Singh in 8th minute, while 2nd and 3rd and goals were scored by Thakur Jeet Singh in 9th, 12th and 33rd minutes respectively. The 5th goal was scored by Tanveer Singh in 52nd minute, while the 6th goal was netted by Manpreet Singh in 54th minute. The only goal from Star XI Pathankot was scored by Tumbi.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd match played today, Namdhari Club defeated New Gurdaspur Hockey Club by (5-0). From Namdhari Club, the 1st goal was scored by Vazeer Singh in 11th minute, while the 2nd goal was scored by Prince in 16th minute and 3rd by Gagandeep Singh in 17th minute. The 4th goal was pelted by Udhampreet Singh in 29th minute and the 5th goal by Gagandeep Singh in 53rd minute.
The matches were officiated by Joginder Singh, D Singh, Iqbal Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Dilbir Mehta, Charanjeet Singh, Jagjeet Singh and G S Bakshi, Tournament Director.
IGP Mukesh Singh was the chief guest in today’s proceedings, while IGP JP Singh presided ovwer the function and Ranjeet Kalra, Member BCCI was the guest of honour. Harminder Singh, organizing secretary and Rajinder Singh (Kuku), treasurer Hockey India were present on the occasion.
