Semis lineup drawn in Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament

JAMMU, Sept 11: Semifinals position has been cleared in both men and women sections of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here.
In men’s section, GDC Kathua, MAM College, GCET and PG Department, University of Jammu have made it to the last four stage, while in the women’s section, GCW Gandhi Nagar, GGM Science College, GDC Paloura and PG Department, University of Jammu sealed berth in the semifinals.
Earlier, in men’s quarterfinals, GDC Kathua beat Law School by (3-1). In singles, Avishek lost to Chander Dev Manhas by (12-21, 21-11, 21-17), Ankit beat Himanshu by (21-8, 21-0) and Dinesh beat Anuragh by (21-7, 21-11), while in doubles, Ankit and Dinesh got better of Chander Dev and Aditya by (21-12, 7-21, 21-7).
In men’s second quarterfinals, MAM College drubbed GDC Udhampur (Boys) by (3-0). In singles, Arjun trounced Vinayak by (19-21, 21-11, 21-18) and Deepak prevailed over Rajat by (13-21, 21-16, 21-18), while in doubles, Arjun and Deepak duo outplayed Ashwani and Rahul pair by (21-18, 21-18).
In the third quarterfinal, GCET got walkover against MIET to sail into the semifinals, while in the fourth boys quarterfinal match, PG Department outclassed GDC Hiranagar by (3-0). In singles, Taranpal Singh beat Sahil Mathur by (21-11, 21-15) and Amit Jasrotia drubbed Abhishek Sharma by (12-21, 21-15, 21-13), while in doubles, Taranpal and Amit beat Abhishek and Gourav by (16-21, 21-18, 21-18).
Meanwhile, in the women’s section, GCW, Gandhi Nagar got better of GCET by (2 – 0). In singles, Suvidha Khajuria outplayed Simran Gupta by (21-8, 21-13) and in doubles, Suvidha and Ishan trounced Shagun and Parul by (21-14, 21-14).
In another quarterfinal match, GDC Paloura got walkover against GDC Ramban, while in third quarterfinal, GGM Sc College beat GCW Parade by (2-0). In singles, Diksha Mahajan got better of Neha by (21-6, 21-6), while in doubles, Diksha and Anshu defeated Sapna and Navjeet by (21-10, 21-14).
PG Department beat GCW Kathua by (2-0) in the fourth quarterfinals in women’s section. In singles, Sangita defeated Shruti by (21-17, 21-8), while in doubles, Sangita and Suman beat Shruti and Bandana by (21-13, 21-10).
The Matches were officiated by Vikram Jamwal, Ravish Vaid, Amit Sharma, Kulvinder Singh, Pankaj, Charanjeet Singh and Suresh under the overall supervision of Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
