Sensex down 313.90 pts

MUMBAI, Jan 18 : The equity market remained weak for the third straight session on Thursday, as the BSE Sensex tanked 313.90 pts to settle at 71,186.86 as selling pressure was seen in Consumer Durable, Utilities and Power stocks.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 190.70 pts at 21,462.25.
The NSE registered days high and low at 21,539.40 and 21,285.55 pts respectively.
Witnessing a carnage on Wednesday, the BSE Sensex opened at 71,018.86, fell 582 pts. During the day it was lost 935 pts at 70,665.50, days low. In late trade, it was slightly improved from days low figure, but closed in red only at 71,186.86, sliding 313.90 pts from its last close.
The stocks that were declined were Consumer Durable by 2.07 pc, Utilities by 1.70 pc, Power by 1.30 pc and BSE services by 0.58 pc.
The Mid Cap eased 0.08 pc while Small Cap moved up by 0.02 pc.
In 30 scrips, 13 advanced, 16 declined while one remained unchanged.
The losers were NTPC by 3.12 pc to Rs 299.70, HDFC Bank by 2.99 pc to Rs 1491, Powergrid by 2.47 pc to Rs 233.20, Titan by 2.31 pc to Rs 3741.65 and Asian Paints by 2.08 pc to Rs 3175.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 2.86 pc to Rs 1336.45, Tech Mahindra by 2.16 pc to Rs 1355.40, Tata Motors by 1.72 pc to by 819.40, M& M by 1.10 pc to Rs 1618 and Axis Bank by 1.03 pc to Rs 1094.65. (UNI)
