NEW DELHI, Apr 23:
There is no proposal under consideration for creation of a separate Ministry for OBCs, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In his reply to a question, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar said there is a separate full-fledged Backward Classes Bureau in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to look after the welfare measures for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
“At present, there is no proposal under consideration for creation of a separate Ministry for OBCs,” he said.
The issue of creation of a separate sub-plan for OBCs, which is possible and effective only when corresponding higher allocations are made, was taken up with the erstwhile Planning Commission but it could not be acceded to so far due to budgetary constraints, the minister added. (PTI)
