Sericulture Deptt organizes workshop

JAMMU, Apr 25: A one-day workshop on catalytic development programme and convergence scheme with other Ministries was organized by the Sericulture Development, Government of J&K, in association with Central Silk Board, here today.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Asgar Hassan Samon, Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production Department, J&K Government, who also released a booklet on Catalytic Development Scheme/ Programme for J&K State during XII Plan.
Dr Malik Farooq, Director Sericulture J&K, M L Chadgal, Additional Director Jammu division, senior officers from State Sericulture Department and Central Silk Board besides stake holders like rearers   also participated in the workshop.
In his inaugural address, Asgar Samoon lauded the Sericulture Department for its schemes and projects, particularly the technological and financial support to J&K State. It has helped in providing employment opportunities both in pre and post cocoon sectors, besides improving economic conditions of rural masses, he added.
Dr Malik Farooq, Director Sericulture, J&K Government, briefed about the present status of Sericulture industry in the State and future strategy for its expansion.
Dr R D Singh, Joint Secretary, Regional office, Central Silk Board, New Delhi, briefed about the objective of workshop and also CDP component implemented during XI Plan and its impact strategy under CDP implementation during XII plan.
Dr A K Sahaf, Director CSR & TI, Pampore, informed about the R&D support provided to the State for development of the industry.
N Sriprakash, Deputy Secretary, Central Silk Board, Bangalore, made brief presentation on various mulberry components under CDP during XII Plan and operational guidelines besides clarifying the doubts on implementation modalities.
Dr R S Teotia, Scientist-D, made presentation on Vanya sector, convergence with MGNREGA and Jaganathan, Scientist-D on post cocoon sector intervention in XII Plan.
Officers from Rural Development Department also attended the workshop.
