JAMMU, Nov 10: Several international athletes including those belonging to Kenya and Denmark will run in the Jammu’s first Half Marathon, which is being organized by Jammu Athlete Club.
While talking to the EXCELSIOR, Gourav Gupta, Founder Member of Jammu Athletes Club (JAC) informed that the motto to organize this Half Marathon is to engage the youth in sports. “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Sports” is the theme of the Marathon, which is scheduled to start tomorrow from Jammu University.
“Runner from across the country especially Kenya and Denmark will be participating in this Marathon, which will create history”, Gupta said, adding that he feels proud of creating history by organizing this Half Marathon in Jammu with participation of runners from foreign countries.
Vikram Gupta, Co-Founder of JAC said that Jammu Athletes Club is resolute to commit itself in providing support to amateur and professional athletes while uplifting the development of sports including running, cycling, swimming and nurturing the potential of the youth in the State.
“This event is a celebration of sports significance involving athletes of J&K and across the globe to run on the same platform and celebrate health and fitness at large while taking up sports as a way of life”, he said, adding that JAC believes in channelizing the energy of the youth in the right direction with innovative use of sports in the context of youth drug abuse prevention.
One of the participating runners Amar Chouhan from Chandigarh in an interaction with the EXCELSIOR expressed happiness in participating in this Half Marathon in Jammu. “I participated in 52 Half Marathons till date and have won 48 gold medals”, he informed.
Another participant said that this Jammu Half Marathon will be enjoyable as the route is fantastic. “I think there will be a good participation of players in this Marathon, which is being organized first time in Jammu”, he added.
Regarding participation of foreigners in this Marathon, he said that this will be a game changer and next year, when we organize this type of Marathon again, thousands of players from across the globe will participate.
Kenyan players while talking to the EXCELSIOR said that they are excited to participate in this Marathon. “I visited India for the second time and first time in Jammu to participate in the Marathon”, one of the players from Kenya said. “It will be a great event and we will enjoy it”, another player from Kenya said.
The Half Marathon is being organized by Founder Member JAC Gourav Gupta along with Co-Founder Vikram Gupta along with core group members namely Prabhat Singh, Vasu Gupta, Surinder Choudhary, Sham Suri, Dilawar Khan, Gagan, Prince Khajuria, Kanav Padha, Rakesh and Jai Sharma.
