JAMMU, Feb 17: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simra-ndeep Singh today convened meeting of District Road Safety Committee and took several important decisions for minimizing accidents and ensuring smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
After hectic deliberations, it was decided that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu would compile data of road accidents in the Jammu district and identify the accident prone areas so that corrective measures are taken by considering this data.
Similarly, it was decided that 20 important roads which are generally chocked by traffic, will be identified by the Traffic Police and two roads each would be given to 10 committees comprising of Deputy Superintendent of Police Assistant Commissioner Rank Magistrate, officials from Jammu Municipal Corporation, Roads and Buildings Department and Traffic Police.
Each committee would be responsible for removal of encroachments and other obstructions which create impediments in smooth flow of traffic and subsequently create chaos on the roads. These committees would be held accountable for implementing the directions of District Road Safety Committee and any reoccurrence of bottlenecks would be attributed to the performance of such committees.
It was further decided in the meeting that yellow marking will be done at all those places where traffic lights have been installed so that vehicles are stopped on a particular portion of the road. Moreover, about 50 roads would be taken up for audit from safety point of view and flaws to be pointed out by the engineers would be removed for smooth flow of traffic and minimize the road accidents.
The meeting was attended by SSP Jammu, SSP Traffic, Regional Transport Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner, officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation and BRO.
