JAMMU, Aug 20: The Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies (SGCWS) at MIER College, in collaboration with Model Academy School, conducted a one-day Adolescent Education Programme for students of classes 9th and 10th. The programme, themed “Mental Wellbeing: Challenges and Strategies,” was held in two sessions and featured Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Psychiatrist Consultant at Pulse Hospital, Jammu, as the resource person.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of practical skills to address the emotional and psychological challenges that adolescents face, such as identity formation, peer pressure, and academic stress. He highlighted common mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and discussed strategies for enhancing mental wellbeing. These included brief behavioural activation, reinforcement, and modeling, as well as fostering strong support networks, open communication, and healthy coping mechanisms. Dr. Kumar stressed the importance of early intervention and creating a safe, supportive environment to promote resilience in adolescents.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students engaged actively with the speaker. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER and Director SSGCWS, lauded the collaborative effort, emphasizing the importance of mental wellbeing strategies for adolescents. The program was conducted by Alisha Vaid, with Anjali Jain and Ishu Sharma introducing the resource person and delivering a vote of thanks. The event was organized under the supervision of Dr. Bharti Tandon, Principal Pramod Srivastava, Vice-Principal J. K. Dhiman, and Dr. Pooja Mishra, Academic Manager, Senior Wing, Model Academy.
