NEW DELHI, Jan17: Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shabir Ahmed Khan today called on Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad here and apprised him about the prevailing health services system in Jammu and Kashmir.
The State Health Minister also briefed the Union Health Minister about the physical and financial status of flagship NRHM programme under implementation for improvement and up gradation of health care facilities .
The Minister apprised the Union Health Minister that under NRHM the State has received an allocation of Rs.710.78 crore till ending December, 2012, against which Rs. 757 crore have been utilized for upgradation of health infrastructure and improvement of modern health care facilities in the State, adding for the purpose the State Government has also released Rs. 130.78 crore as State share.
The Minister informed the Union Health Minister that though the State government has achieved lot in the field of health by creation of new health centers, besides up gradation of existing ones, but there is much to be done in this direction, adding that hilly and remote areas need more attention under the sector.
The Minister requested the Union Minister for providing liberal funding under NRHM and other flagship programmes for upgradation of health care facilities. He said that State needs to set up more health centers besides upgradation of existing ones which need more funds from the Centre.
The Union Health Minister gave a patient hearing to the demands of the Minister and assured the Minister for providing all possible financial assistance from the Centre to the State Government for development of health sector care in the State.
