JAMMU, Sept 7: Minister of State for CAPD, Transport, Power and Forest, Shabir Ahmed Khan today asked transport functionaries to take innovative measures to further streamline the working of the department.
The Minister said this while chairing a meeting of Transport Department here today.
The Minister stressed upon the transport authorities to ensure hassle free public transport on every route in the city and its peripheral areas. He called for strict enforcement of Motor Vehicle Act besides asking the concerned to deal strictly with those who violate the Act. He also instructed for not allowing the vehicles without valid route permits besides keeping a check on overloading to avoid mishaps.
The meeting was informed that 100 kanal of land is being acquired by the Transport Department for construction of High Tech Driving Institute so that commercial vehicle drivers be imparted training to reduce the scale of road accidents.
The Minister directed the concerned authorities to conduct awareness camps for drivers and conductors and general public to make aware them about the traffic rules and safety precautions.
The meeting also discussed status of installation of High Resolution Number Plates on vehicles. It was told that 9500 High Resolution Number Plates have been installed so far and the process is in full swing.
Other issues discussed included implementation of various transport Acts, action taken on decision taken in last meeting held in Rajouri, measures put in place to check the menace of overloading/rash driving, inspection for checking fitness of vehicles, check on use of mobiles, permits/RCs issued during the current year, issue of the permit to hungry/needy routes, status of construction of RTO Office, Rajouri, status of traffic signals installed/functional in Jammu, traffic jamming in Jammu city and designation of stops for matadors in Jammu.
