Shah-e-Hamdaan cricket tournament gets underway

SRINAGAR, May 2: Army today said Shah-e-Hamdan T-20 cricket Tournament (II) at Tsarali Gund in Tral area of South Kashmir was to promote budding cricketers from Awantipura and Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A defence spokesman said the immense popularity of the first edition of tournament conducted last year was the inspiration behind organizing the second edition in the recently renovated Tsaraligund Cricket Stadium.
“The aim of this tournament is to provide a platform to the young cricketers to showcase their talent in a competitive environment.  The 18 day-long tournament commenced on May 1 at Tsaraligund Cricket Stadium with an overwhelming participation of 36 teams from all over Kashmir Valley.  The tournament is being played on knockout basis,” he said.
