KATHUA, Aug 29: A football tournament organized in the name of ‘Veer Sainiks’ by the Shaheed Amar Veer Memorial Trust Kathua was held at the J&K Sports Stadium, Basohli, here today.
The tournament was sponsored by a couple of business entities under the broad initiative of ex-Deputy Commandant Abhinav Mehta and his associates. Colonel Mahan Singh (Retd.), DDC Chairman of Kathua, was the chief guest at the event. DDC Member Marheen Karan Atri and Principal of Sanskriti School, Darambir Jasrotia were the Guests of Honor. Baljinder Singh, J&K Sports Authority District Manager, was also present.
Six teams of boys and girls each participated in the tournament, which took place over the course of a week. The first final was played between Girls Football Club Kathua and Girls Football Club Hiranagar, in which the Hiranagar team won the tournament with a score of 3-0. The second final was played between Kathua Football Federation Team and Hiranagar Football Club. The Hiranagar team won with a substantial margin. Medals and trophies were distributed to the winners and runners-up by the Chief Guest. The Veer Naris and next of kin of Shaheed Amar Jawans were honored and presented with trophies during the event.
