Sham distributes trophies to winners

JAMMU, Dec 21: The 4-day Inter Collegiate Men/Women Table Tennis Tournament which was played at the GGM Science College was concluded here today.
In the championship, total 23 teams in men category and 22 teams in women category of different colleges from across the Jammu division participated.  In men category, the final was played between MBS College and PG Department of Jammu University and MBS College won the trophy by winning two matches out of three matches played.
Whereas, in women category, the final was played between Women College Gandhi Nagar and Commerce College and Women College Gandhi Nagar won the trophy by winning three matches out of 5 matches played.
Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, who was chief guest on the concluding day gave away trophies to the players. In his brief address, the Minister lauded the efforts of the college authorities for organizing the tournament and promoting the Table Tennis amongst the students. He said sports are as important as academic activities for the overall development of the students. The stressed the need for conducting regular sports activities in the educational institutions.
Sham said that Government was committed to give impetus to different sports in the State and during the past four years a massive sports infrastructure has been developed across the State. It’s a matter of pride that Government has successfully conducted some international events in the State which has caught the attraction of world sports authorities. He hoped that many more such important will be played in the State during the next year. He  said the sports provide opportunities to the players to visit different parts of the country to know about the culture and customs of other states, which strengthen the communal harmony and mutual brotherhood, he added.
