AKHNOOR, Nov 16: Making fervent appeal to the people for repeating his candidature from Akhnoor constituency, senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today said during his previous two tenures he launched several bigger development initiatives in the area and he needs more time to complete these in order to make the constituency best in the State.
Addressing series of election meetings at Akhnoor town, the minister said that being representative of the area during the past over one decade he tried to safeguard the interests of the constituency and its people and voiced their genuine issues at right forums. The development initiatives taken during this period are quite visible on ground. He said safeguarding the dignity and honor of his people is his paramount duty and he will continue to fight for the genuine causes of the area in future too. He asked the people to acknowledge these initiatives and vote for him if they have like his performance.
“In democracy every party and candidate have right to show their strength and political agenda amongst the people, but it is people’s opinion that decides the future of a candidate by exercising their right to franchise. The people must read the credentials of the candidates and make their choice so that after winning he delivers as per their aspirations” Mr Sharma said.
Castigating BJP for its anti-poor policies, the Minister said that this party has always done the politics of communalism and dividing the people in the name of religion and castes. He said such things are dangerous for the multi-religion society in Jammu and Kashmir adding that J&K State has rich history of secularism, communal harmony and mutual brotherhood which is even unique in the country, but the forces like BJP are trying to create wedge between religions and communities for the petty political gains. He appealed the people to defeat the nefarious design of this party. He asked them to vote and support the Congress party.
