Sham pitches for introducing moral education in schools

JAMMU, Jan 21:Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has said that better human resources is pre-requisite for economic growth of a nation, adding that Government has taken several steps to universalise education with blend of courses having market demand.
The Minister was speaking at the annual day function of a school in Akhnoor today.
Mr. Sham said that teachers have greater responsibility towards the nation and they should discharge their duty with missionary spirit. He asked them to shape the career of students in such a way that they become good citizens to take future challenges. He emphasised the need for promoting moral knowledge/ethics amongst the younger generation side by side academic activities. He said that it is essential to keep pace with rest of the world to compete in different fields, but simultaneously the efforts should be made to touch social aspects to reform the society through moral education, the Minister asserted.
The Minister said that in the present era parents and school lay stress on the children to secure maximum marks and to become Engineers and Doctors, but side by side the students must be made aware about their responsibility towards the society and nation through regular lecturers by teacher, the Minister maintained.
Later, the Minister distributed mementoes and certificates among the students who excelled in different activities which were held in the institution from time to time.
A cultural bonanza was also presented by the students on the occasion.
