Sharda Ashtami celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Sept 2: Sharda Ashtami which is also known as Ganga Ashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today.
In this connection a grand function was held at Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra (SSK) Anand Nagar Bohri which was attended by hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of the Jammu. Dr Ved Kumari Ghai a renowned scholar was the chief guest on the occasion.
A Maha Yagya was also performed on the occasion which started yesterday evening and culminated with Puranahuti this afternoon.
After the Puranhauti the devotees were served with Prashad.
On the occasion two scholars of the community Dr Kashi Nath Pandita former Director Central Asian Studies and noted spiritual poet and the first Sahitya Akademi Award Winner, Master Zind Kaul were awarded Sharda Puraskar.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Ved Kumari Ghai dwelled upon the profound contribution of Sanskrit scholars who she said laid the basis of the vast Indian culture output and which did not only influenced the Indian ethos but also influenced other regions of the world.
Another speaker Swami Ekarthanand Ji of Ram Krishen Mission Udeywala also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the Swami Vivekananda.
Jugal Kishore  Sharma MP and State president BJP while speaking in the function said that BJP was always committed to the welfare of displaced community of Kashmiri Pandits and will strive hard to enable them to return to Kashmir with honour and dignity.
Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion two books titled Kaunsarnag Mahathayam -Ethasak Tathya written by H K Siddha and Vandana a book based upon the life of eminent Karm Kanda Acharya Pandit Keshev Bhat Jyotshi were released.
Another function was held at Sharda Temple Pouni Chak. A hawan was also performed on the occasion under the supervision of S K Koul former  Commissioner, Excise who is also the chairman of the Mandir Committee.
