KALAKOTE, Aug 23: Ashok Sharma, former legislator and senior Congress leader has expressed serious concern over the damage caused to standing crops, vegetables and fruits due to torrential rain, hail and wind storms in various parts of the State during this week and demanded full compensation to the affected farmers.
Addressing farmers at Patheri and Rainawadi in Kalakote area of Rajouri district, Mr Sharma urged for conducting special girdwari to assess the quantum of damage and immediately deploying joint teams of Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and officers of other concerned departments to visit all the affected areas so that a holistic report about the damage to crop, vegetables and fruit is formulated for providing compensation to the growers as per market rate of these commodities.
The affected people may be provided 6 month free ration, seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to the rain, hail storm and wind storm affected farmers on cent percent subsidy for the coming Rabi season, he added.
Mr Sharma also demanded that a comprehensive crop and live stock insurance policy be implemented in the State to offset the losses incurred by the farmers due to untimely and heavy rains, snow fall, hail storm and wind storm every year for which the premium be borne by the Government.
