Shawetica Khajuria elected gen secy Tawi Trekkers

JAMMU, Aug 30: In a land mark development in the history of adventure clubs in India, Shawetica Khajuria was unanimously elected as the general secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, thus becoming the first woman in the country to be elected as General Secretary of an Adventure club. She replaces Ram Khajuria, the founder General Secretary who served the club with distinction for a long period of 32 years.
It may be mentioned here that 28 years old Shawetica is a qualified national judge in sport climbing. As a sport climber she has represented the State in a number of Zonal & National competitions and has won medals at the Zonal level. Besides, she is a trained mountaineer who has participated and led many trekking expeditions. A post graduate in sociology, Shawetica is presently Treasurer of Mountaineering Association of J&K and an Executive member of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
The meeting of the club, chaired by Advisor of the club, Professor Lalit Magotra also unanimously elected Rajesh Gupta and Seema Kharyal as vice presidents, Sonam Sidharth as joint secretary and Kamal Kumar as treasurer of the club.
Members elected in the Executive Body included Vivek Chauhan, Administrator of Oriental Academy Hr. Sec. School; Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma, both Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Everester Sajad Haider, Stanzin Youthog, an eminent mountaineer; Sumit Khajuria, a prominent mountaineer, Anil Kumar, a sport climber; Rohit Sharma of MHAC School, Nagbani and senior members Ram Raj Sharma, Amit Khajuria and Akshay Sadotra of Bishnah.
The new management team shall be administered Oath of Office and assume the charge of the club on October 2, the foundation day of the club.
