Kupwara, Oct 3: Vajr Cup, a coveted football tournament for young boys of 12-18 years of age of Kupwara district was conducted from September 26 to October 3, 2012 under the aegis of Vajr Division here.
This was in continuation with the sustained efforts of the Army towards promoting a spirit of sportsmanship amongst the local youth.
The tournament with nine teams representing Karnah, Kupwara, Handwara, Lolab, Panzgam, Chowkibal and Drugmulla was contested for the prestigious Vajr Cup in which matches were played on league cum knockout basis, Sher-e-Jugtial and Handwara Warriors secured their ways to the finals which was played on October 3, 2012 at Panzgam amidst much fanfare. In a stoutly fought match Sher-e-Jugtial beat Handwara Warriors by 4 goals to 3 (4-3).
This efforts of the army towards constructive engagement of the youth has been appreciated by all walks of society and will go a long way for betterment of Kashmiri Awam.
