Shia Federation holds protest, demands restoration of land to Karbala Complex

JAMMU, Mar 6: Shia Federation Jammu, Province today held a massive demonstration outside the Press club Jammu, to press their demands under the leadership of its president  Ashiq Hussain Khan.
While briefing to the media Mr. Khan said that the premises where the Peer-Mitha Police station, , has been constructed , originally belongs to the community and formed part of the Karbala complex . It was illegally encroached upon, first Police Post was set up, by raising a tent there and later Pacca building was constructed at the spot, for the Police post , which since has been upgraded to the Police Station and a new posh building has been constructed there for the same.
He further said that the State Governments, right from the time of Dogra rulers to the popular Governments, has been allotting lands to the religious communities for their shrines etc. but in this case the land which belonged to the community from the very beginning and formed part of Karbala complex, was encroached upon by the Government for setting up Police Station there khan also demanded setting up of Shia community Advisory Board , on the pattern of Advisory Boards set up for Gujjars , Bakerwals , SCS and STS.
Shia leader said that successive State governments have neglected Shia community in all spheres of life. He said that there are no basic facilities in Shia villages and people are suffering a lot. He said community in Jammu province has no representation in Upper House or Lower House. He also demanded that the Government to reserve a seat for Shia community of Jammu in Upper House. He said that Government should give reservation to Shia community on the pattern of other communities.
Besides he demanded scholarship for Shia students and also a job package for unemployed educated youth, Shia students to be given reservation in professional and technical educations and representations in J& K PSC and SSB. He also demanded to establish Shia student’s hostels in Jammu as well as Kashmir.
He alleged that Shia community living in far flung areas of district Poonch lack road connectivity and other facilities.
