JAMMU, Feb 15: To commemorate the glorious services in the field of education, Shiksha Niketan Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu celebrated 47th Foundation Day on the theme ‘Umang’ organized in the auditorium of Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu with gaiety and fervour.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Samita Sethi, Director School Education, Jammu presided over the function.
Kiran Bakshi, Principal, Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu along with Ashok Kumar, Director Sports Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra were the guests of honour.
All guests were given rousing reception on their arrival and were presented bouquets by Rameshwar Mengi, Principal of the School.
The function commenced with lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest, presiding guest, guests of honour and Principal of the School.
Saraswati Vandana presented by the students of the school gave an auspicious start to the programme.
Earlier, Principal of the school gave a brief description about the students who excelled in different fields.
The toddlers of Pre-Primary wing performed a dance on English song (Brazil/welcome).
A Punjabi song was presented by the students of Middle Wing and students of High Wing presented a short play “Uthan”.
Rs 5,000 in the form of cheque was awarded to each position holder of the 10th class, a cheque of Rs 2,000 was given the student who got position in class 8th and a cheque of Rs 1,000 each were given to the students who got merit in classes 1st to 7th during previous academic session.
Prominent among other dignitaries present on the occasion were ID Soni, Rits Mengi, PK Dhar and Ravinder Kour, while The vote of thanks was presented by the management of Shiksha Niketan Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
