Shiv Khori shrine

Keeping in mind the sanctity and popularity of Shiv Khori— the Holy Cave abode of Lord Shiva at a distance of 70 kms from Katra— and also the ever increasing number of pilgrims to the shrine, it is pertinent that the Shrine Board is re-organised along the lines of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.  The cave is a real wonder to be seen and measures nearly half a kilometre in length with a 4 feet high naturally formed Shiv-lingam at the heart of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The cave is in the shape of Lord Shiva’s Damroo.  Shiv-Khori Shrine is well connected with Katra / Jammu by road. The devotees can visit the place by taxi/car. Few bus services from Katra are also available. Thousands of pilgrims visit the holy cave throughout the year. Many pilgrims link a pilgrimage to Shiv Khori with pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. At present facilities available to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine pilgrims are not available to those desirous of visiting Shiv Khori. Our shrines are also tourist spots because these are usually situated in scenic settings. This also strengthens the demand that the Shiv Khori shrine should be developed and maintained in the same way as Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is maintained. This is unavoidable in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, pilgrim facilities and pilgrim-tourist enterprise. In the recent meeting of the Shrine Board, the Divisional Commissioner did take stock of various facilities available to the pilgrims to Shiv  Khori. We would urge the administration for further upgradation of facilities available to the pilgrims visiting the revered shrine.
