SRINAGAR, July 31: Militants this evening fired at a police naka party at Mirgund on Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway in Baramulla district injuring a police officer and two cops while police arrested the driver of the vehicle in which militants were travelling. A massive manhunt has been launched against the militants responsible for firing.
DIG North Kashmir, Garib Dass, told Excelsior that a Tavera vehicle was signaled to stop at Mirgund by a police party that has established a naka in Baramulla district on Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway. “The vehicle didn’t stop and militants present inside fired at the police party injuring Station House Officer, Inspector Mohammad Salim”, he said.
Reports said that Constable Mushtaq Ahmad and SPO Dilshad Ahmad were also injured in the militant firing and police also fired back injuring the driver of the Tavera vehicle, Bilal Ahmad Gojri son of Ghulam Mohammad Gojri of Pattan.
The vehicle came to halt after the driver was injured and the two militants who were travelling in the car fled from the scene. The driver of the vehicle was arrested by the police.
The Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01Q-8792 was seized and its driver was arrested in injured condition.
The SHO has received two bullets one in hand and another in leg and he along with two other cops and Tavera driver were referred to SKIMS Bemina in Srinagar for treatment. The cops were, however, shifted to 92-Base Hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment for treatment.
All the security forces that are camping in the area including 2 RR and 29 besides, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been rushed to the spot and a major man hunt has been launched against the two militants who fired at police naka party.
Police believed that the two militants are hiding in the area and more troops have been rushed to trap the militants responsible for the firing at the police naka party.
Reports said that there was a generic input with the police that the militants are travelling in a car on the National Highway. Sources said that militants travel on the National Highway frequently.
In the meantime, police and Army launched a massive search operation in Pulwama district after militants fired several rounds in air at Goos village this evening.
Reports said that militants travelling in a Sumo vehicle fired several rounds in air at village Chile Kalan near Goosu in district Pulwama this evening.
Army and police immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned several villages in the area to trace out militants who were responsible for firing.
