The shortage of officers in Army has been mentioned as one of the causes of friction between soldiers and officers by Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh.
To avoid repeat of such incidents in the future Indian Army should make all possible efforts to fill the vacant posts of officers.
It is an admitted fact that the private sector in the country is now providing lucrative perks and privileges. It is this attraction that pulls the enterprising youth towards it.
Army should make provisions for good salaries, relax some service norms and make working conditions better than the existing ones so that candidates who are talented, dynamic in approach and have zeal to perform will opt Army as their career option.
At a time when India is surrounded by hostile neighbours, it is necessary that the army is battle ready. We can procure arms and ammunition from foreign countries, but we can not buy men from other countries to handle them.
