JAMMU, Apr 25: Shreya Gupta represented the fencing community in an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other sportspersons of different disciplines during the Panchayat Divas at Palli in Samba.
“It’s a matter of pride for the whole Fencing community that one of our players Shreya was there in the meet. It is the hard work of coaches, dedication of J&K Amateur Fencing Association and wholehearted support of J&K Sports Council that J&K Fencers are reaching glorious heights by winning medals in national and international arena,” said president of Association MJ Sharma.
Shreya Gupta has a commendable contribution to bring name and fame for J&K as well as Association by winning medals in Commonwealth and Asian Championships besides at national level. Shreya Gupta is the first woman athlete from J&K to be selected in TOPS (Target Olympics Podium Scheme) scheme of Government of India for Olympics 2024. She has been conferred with Sher-e-Kashmir Award, S. Rangil Singh Award and Veer Mata Jeejabhai Puruskar.
The Association thanked the Secretary Sports Council for projecting the Fencing game and recommending Shreya’s name in the delegation of outstanding sportspersons.
