Shreya wins Bronze in 35th Senior National Fencing C’ship

JAMMU, Jan 1: Jammu and Kashmir’s star fencer, Shreya Gupta, a National champion and International Fencer, added another milestone to her illustrious career by securing a Bronze medal at the ongoing 35th Senior National Fencing Championship in Kannur, Kerala. The Championship, which began on December 31, 2024, will conclude on January 3, 2025.
Shreya made it to the semifinals, where she faced Olympian Bhawani Devi in a hard-fought battle. Despite initially leading 8-4, Bhawani’s experience proved to be the deciding factor, as she triumphed 15-11. However, Shreya’s performance was still commendable, showcasing her skill and determination.
In the medal bout, Shreya bounced back strongly, defeating Kerala’s Jose Josna Christy 15-9. Earlier, in the knockout rounds, Shreya dominated her opponents, Prakriti Sharma of Rajasthan and Vandita Barad of Gujarat, both of whom she beat with a convincing 15-6 scoreline.
With a record of 5 International medals and 20 National Golds, Shreya continues to excel on both the national and international stages.
The Secretary of J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, congratulated Shreya on her remarkable achievement and also praised her coach, Shotu Lal Sharma, for his pivotal role in Shreya’s success and for bringing pride to Jammu and Kashmir.
