JAMMU, July 21: Creating history, Indian archers Rakesh Kumar, Sarita and Sheetal Devi have created new world records and booked their slots for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Among the part of Indian squad, the trainees of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Sports Complex, Katra, para archers have created a new world records at Pilsen Para World Archery Championship 2023.
Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Anshul Garg in tweet said, “Rakesh Kumar, Sarita and Sheetal Devi create new World Records at Pilsen Para World Archery Championship 2023 and book slots for Paris 2024.”
“Archers of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex keep the Tricolor flying high, thanks to divine blessings & vision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha,” Garg wrote.
Sarita set three world records in Pilsen after shooting 697 out of a possible 720 points (one more than the previous world best) to take compound women’s pole. “I’m really happy. It’s a great day for me. I worked very hard for that and it allowed me to chill while shooting,” she told media.
In women’s doubles, Sarita paired up with 16-year-old Sheetal to create a new qualification world record of 1386 and top the qualification.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) CEO Anshul Garg said, “This is the first time when three players from same complex created world records in an International level. We are extremely delighted for the success of our archers.”
“To give boost to this sport, we are constructing a multi facility residential complex exclusively for Archers here so that they can practice while residing here. The capacity would be of 32 people with all facilities and likely to complete within two month.” Garg said.
“Interest of people has now increased in recent times towards the Archery game, but we are focusing on overall development of other games as well.” He added further.
