Shrine Board’s Sports Complex being developed as hub of sports activities

KATRA, Sept 15: The 4th meeting of the Governing Council of Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra, was held at Spiritual Growth Centre, here today, wherein a number of important decisions were taken for scouting the sporting talent and arranging mega sports events in the coming months to promote sports and games in the area.
The Governing Council discussed in detail all the issues related to an Archery event being organized at the Sports Complex in the 3rd week of October this year in which 150 to 200 archers from J&K and some of the neighbouring States will participate.
The meeting decided to organize a Talent Scouting Camp in Athletics at the Sports Complex in the coming months so that the budding players having adequate potential to make a mark in varied sports disciplines are selected and imparted intensive coaching to groom them well for the national and international level competitions.
Other matters that came up for discussion in the meeting included creating centres of excellence in some of the identified sports for developing the Sports Complex on the pattern of Sports Academy and organizing a national level marathon race at Katra in February 2018.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Sports Complex, chaired the meeting.  Jitendra Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer, and Anshul Garg, Additional CEO of the Board; prominent sportspersons i.e. Ashwani Nachappa, former International Athlete (Arjuna Awardee);  Sanjeeva Singh, former international Archer (Arjuna/Dronacharya Awardee);  Krupali Singh, National Gymnastics Coach (Arjuna Awardee);  Kuldeep Handoo, eminent Wushu player and national coach; and  Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB, all of whom are members of the Governing Council, participated in the deliberations.  Ranjit Kalra, Member, J&K State Sports Council, attended the meeting as a special invitee.  Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer and Dr Arvind Karwani, Dy CEO of the Shrine Board were also present.
