Shubam Khajuria selected for India U-19 Quadrangular Series

*Says tips from B Arun, V Zol helped him

JAMMU, Sept 13: For his splendid domestic performance last year and especially good show against Sri Lanka Under-19 team recently, talented Jammu and Kashmir opening batsman, Shubam Khajuria has once again got the nod of the selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to represent India Under-19 Cricket team in the prestigious Quadrangular Series which begins from September 23, 2013 at Vishakhapatnam in India.
Formidable Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and host India Under-19 teams are part of this cricketing extravaganza.
Shubam has been picked in the party for his superb show in the BCCI’s Cooch Behar Under-19 Tournament last year, scoring two big centuries and four half-centuries with an aggregate total of over 700 runs, besides the scores of 52, 36, 15 and unbeaten 34 runs in the four innings against Sri Lanka Under-19 side in Sri Lanka recently. He was instrumental in setting the stage for India Under-19 team in his debut innings of power-packed 52 runs, in which he smashed 10 crispy boundaries.
Meanwhile, talking to EXCELSIOR, Shubam has attributed his success to sheer dint of hard-work, apart from the support of his parents, coaches and well wishers.
He said that the amount of pressure will be lesser as compared to his debut tour of Sri Lanka and hoped for a better show.
“The tips from India Under-19 coach, B Arun and skipper Vijay Zol has helped me a lot during the tour of Sri Lanka and I am ready to transform smaller knocks into bigger ones. B Arun Sir has helped me in believing that application is the name of the game,” expressed Shubam.
Meanwhile, confirming his selection in India Under-19 team, Manzoor Wazir, treasurer Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and Ranjeet Kalra, chairman Media Committee JKCA said that Shubam’s selection is a great news for the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the cricketing community and the selection of Parvez Rasool in Team India and Shubam in India Under-19 team will go a long way in helping J&K to carve a place on country’s cricket map.
