Shubam’s classic 83 fail to stop Delhi from 6-wkt win over J&K

JAMMU, Oct 28: Shubam Khajuria scored magnificent 83 runs, his third consecutive half century in the tournament after slamming a swashbuckling ton in the opening match of the tournament against Himachal Pradesh, but failed to stop Delhi from registering an emphatic win over Jammu and Kashmir in the Vinoo Mankad Under-19 North Zone Cricket Tournament at Jhajjar in Haryana today.
The talented India Under-19 opener from Jammu and Kashmir scored 103 against Himachal Pradesh, 72 against Haryana, 59 against Punjab and 83 against Delhi today, with a total of 317 runs in four matches he played in the tournament so far.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K managed to score 179 runs in 49.1 overs. Shubam scored fabulous 83 off 93 balls, studded with 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Zaid Mohd, Jatin Wadhawan, Ahmed Banday and Aaqib Nazir contributed 25, 15, 17 and 13 runs to the total respectively. SD Mathur was the wrecker-in-chief for Delhi who scalped 5 wickets by conceding 30 runs in his 11.1 overs, while AU Vats bagged 2 wickets and Sarang Rawat, HS Sangwan and Mohd A Bilal shared one wicket apiece.
In reply, Delhi scored the required runs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Pratush Singh scored brilliant half-century, while HT Singh, Hiten Dalal and SR Ranjan contributed 45, 28 and 23 runs to the total respectively. For J&K, Aaqib Nazir took 2 wickets, while Paras Sharma claimed one.
The match was officiated by Subramaniam Iyer and Nitin Pal as umpires, while Prakash Bhatt was the match referee.
