Srinagar, Dec 21: A spontaneous shutdown amid a protest was observed in Malangpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the unscheduled power curtailment.
The local residents of Malangpora this morning took to streets in the area and blocked main road towards Pampore. The residents said the Power Development Department (PDD) is subjecting them to unscheduled power cuts in the harsh winter.
To protest the curtailment, all the shops and commercial establishments remained closed in the area while locals raised anti-Government slogans and didn’t allow vehicles to ply through the area.
“The PDD is subjecting us to unscheduled power cuts. The curtailment schedule is not followed and we hardly see electricity for two hours in 24 hours. We demand scheduled power supply and if the same is not provided we will intensify our protests,” said the protesters.
Later the top police and PDD officials rushed to the area and assured protesters of redressal of their demand. The PDD officials told protesters that within week’s time the electricity would be provided as per schedule after which the latter dispersed and restored the routine activities.
