JAMMU, Apr 4: Various Sikh organizations of J&K have rejected the Delimitation Commission’s draft report and termed it as discriminatory and highly objectionable.
In a meeting of various prominent Sikh organizations of J&K here today, all members under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh, chief organizer, Bhai Kanhaiya Nishkam Sewa Society, J&K and Ex-member DGPC Jammu, rejected with one voice the proposed report of Delimitation Commission. While creating new constituencies the set norms are violated and not bothered about geographical locations.
They alleged that the delimitation report executed under the patronage of Chairperson, Justice Ranjana Desai is unconstitutional and do not satisfy the general public as well as opposition parties. In 1996 the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had passed that the delimitation will be processed in J&K on the basis of 2021 census, when it will took place in India. On one hand the BJP claims that with the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A the J&K UT will be ruled at par with Central Government and the other hand treating J&K UT separately.
The delimitation report has ignored some communities while others are appeased. There are constituencies like RS Pura in Jammu which is reserved for last 26 years and commission further reserved it for ten years which is a total violation of delimitation norms. The minorities are ignored in all aspects particularly Sikhs who suffered due to partition of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 and never be given their share in politics as since long Sikh community demanding for reservation in assembly seats like other communities. The assembly seats having majority of SC, ST, OBC and minorities like Sikhs are shuffled in such a way to reduce their majority and tried to make them upper caste dominated. In Suchetgarh constituency, the Sikhs and Jatts of Jammu region are panelized with revengeful attitude. Rajouri, Poonch clubbed with Anantnag constituency having no geographic, cultural, ethnic and linguistic match. The Commission is requested to revisit delimitation process and redress it as per aspirations of the people, they added.
Prominent among those present included Darbinder Singh president Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Rajinder Singh general secretary SAD, Raja Singh Sarpanch member DGPC Jammu, Ravinder Singh Sarpanch, Kulwant Singh-SAD, Gajan Singh, Kuldeep Kour, Gurmeet Kour, Charanjeet Singh and others.
