Sikhs threaten mass migration from Valley

Srinagar, Aug 11: Alleging apathy from the State Government in solving the problems of Sikhs living in the Kashmir valley, the All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today threatened mass migration of Sikhs from the Valley.
Addressing a press conference here this morning, Jagmohan Singh Raina, Chairman APSCC said that majority of the Sikhs living in the upper areas of Budgam, Baramulla and Kupwara districts have either migrated to urban areas or outside the Kashmir valley. He said that the State Government has miserably failed in solving the problems being faced by the Sikhs in Valley.
“If the apathy continues like this then all the Sikhs living in the Kashmir valley would be forced for mass migration,” said Jagmohan.
He said that APSCC would hold two day Sikh Ethnic Conference on August 17-18 to discuss the problems being faced by the community. He said that Sikhs drawn from different parts of the country would take part in the conference.
“Sikh leaders and intellectuals from the state and Members of Parliament like Pratap Singh Bajwa and Sukhdev Singh Dindsa would take part in the conference. Former MP Ahluwalia along with leaders from Delhi and Punjab would also be a part of the conference,” said Jagmohan.
He demanded a judicial probe into the non-issuance of Internal Displacement Certificate to the Sikhs living in the State. He alleged that both the central and State Governments have given special IDC within Kashmir valley to a preferred minority.
“Along with the non-issuance of IDC the Sikhs are being denied the status of minority in the State. There is no provision for Sikhs in the jobs as a result of which thousands of Sikh youth are unemployed. Jagdeep Singh Bali, the executive engineer who went missing six months back continues to remain untraced. This shows the non-seriousness of the State in solving the problems of Sikhs,” said Jagmohan.
