JAMMU, Apr 12: Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh in presence of Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council, Jammu and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Player inaugurated the “4th Baisakhi T20 Tri-Series” in an impressive and colourful function at Parade ground, here today.
He declared the Series open by playing a few balls and testing his cricketing skill.
Simrandeep Singh who is also the Chairman of District Sports Council, Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this mega event on the eve of Baisakhi.
The Deputy Commissioner said that organizing sporting events on festivals brings an ecstatic feeling as it helps the sportspersons to celebrate festivals through the medium of sports and hone skill in a recreational way.
He further said that District Sports Council, Jammu is committed to promote sports and games right from the grass-root level.
The Tri-Series in which 3 teams namely Rainawari Cricket Club , Janipur Cricket Club and Vishal Cricket Club are participating is being organized by Vishal Cricket Club, Jammu, under the aegis of Sports Council Jammu and the organizing committee includes Ranjeet Kalra,Vinay Gupta, Rajesh Dhar, Satwant Singh, RP Singh, Sunil Sambyal, Vivek Sharma, Anand Tripathi, David Mattoo, Asif Gill, Sunny Gill, Surinder Singh Bagal, Rajesh Sharma, Dheeraj and Ankit Sharma, while Rajesh Gill is the Coordinator.
Earlier, in the opening match, Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC), Srinagar defeated Janipur Cricket Club easily by 6 wickets.
Janipur Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Janipur Cricket Club scored 137 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Arjun top scored with 37 runs, while Hunny and Deepak Dogra contributed 34 and 26 runs respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Satish Kumar was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets, while skipper Kuldeep Kumar captured 2 wickets. Dilbagh Singh, Sahil and Parveen Singh shared one wicket each.
RCC Srinagar, in reply achieved the target in 19 overs by losing 4 wickets and won the match by 6 wickets. RCC’s batting mainstay, Satish Kumar was the top scorer with 43 runs, while Ridham Mahajan and Parveen Singh contributed 24 and 23 runs respectively Puneet Wattal and Rahul Mussa chipped in with 12 and 9 runs each. Satish, in particular was in sublime touch and hit the ball with fluidity and grace. Deepak took 2 wickets for Janipur Cricket Club, while Sawan and Sachin claimed one wicket each. Satish Kumar was adjudged as man of the match for his brilliant all-round show.

In tomorrow’s fixture, Vishal Cricket Club will take on Rainawari Cricket Club at 9.30 am.
