JAMMU, Mar 19: Simula Cricket Club and Glamorous Cricket Club, Poonch registered convincing wins over their rivals and entered into the semifinals of the 3rd Police Martyrs T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu at KC Sports Club, here.
In the first match, Glamorous Club defeated Patel Cricket Club by one wicket in a thrilling contest.
Batting first, Patel Club scored 113 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 18 overs. Rakesh, Sunny and Rahul contributed 22, 20 and19 runs respectively. For Poonch, Manchu took and Deepu took 2 wickets, while Deepak claimed one.
In reply, Poonch chased the total in a close contest in 17.5 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process, thus won the match by one wicket. Marshal (28), Manchu (23) and Ankush (14) were the main scorers. Manchu of Glamorous Cricket Club Poonch was adjudged man of the match. The Poonch team, which has for the first time entered the semifinals of the mega event in Jammu, is receiving training tips by Pawan Kumar, Ranji Trophy trainer and playing member of the team.
In another match, Simula Cricket Club defeated Jammu Gymkhana by 6 wickets.
Batting first, the young side of Jammu Gymkhana scored 126 runs in the allotted 16 overs, with Jagandeep Singh(33), Amar (31) and Akash (17). Amandeep Singh bagged 3 wickets, while Sameer Khajuria claimed 2. Vikram and Dhruv Mahajan shared one wicket each.
Simula Club, in reply chased the target in 15 overs by losing 4 wicket to win the match by 6 wickets. Hardeep Singh was the top scorer with 54 runs, while Dhruv Mahajan and Shashi Kumar contributed 24 and 21 runs to the total respectively. Hardeep Singh was adjudged man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Suhail, Sunny, Arun, Naresh and Vinod Kandayara.
Simula Cricket Club will face Rainawari Cricket Club Srinagar, while Glamorous Cricket Club, Poonch will take on Samar Cricket Club in the semifinals at the same venue tomorrow.
