JAMMU, June 5: Defeating Young Cricket Club in a low scoring game easily by 6 wickets, Simula XI became the third team to enter the semifinals to join KCCC and NCC, which are already in the last four stage of the Salute and Tribute to the Players Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
JCC will take on Laxmi Cricket Club in the last quarterfinal tomorrow and the winner will be the 4th team to seal berth in the semifinals.
Earlier, in the third quarterfinal, batting first, Young CC managed to score a meagre total of 93 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 8 wickets in the process. Ritesh played a brilliant innings of 44 runs off 54 balls, studded with 5 boundaries. For Simula XI, speedster Vikram and left-arm spinner Shamsher Singh Manhas shared 2 wickets each, while off-spinner Sameer Khajuria claimed one wicket.
In reply, Simula XI chased the target in 9.4 overs by loing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Atul top scored with 31 runs which included 7 boundaries, while Shashi contributed unbeaten 30 runs off 15 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and one six. For Young Cricket Club, Rohit took 2 wickets, while Ritesh claimed one. Shashi of Simula XI Was adjudged man of the match for his brisk knock.
In another quarterfinal played yesterday, KCCC drubbed Challenger Club by 46 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, KCC rode on a splendid knock of 78 runs off 54 balls by Manik Gupta to score a decent total of 158 runs. Vimarsh Kaw (27), Bandeep Singh (18) and Pardeep Bali (15) were the other contributors.
In reply, Challenger Club managed to score 112 runs in the allotted overs by losing 9 wickets. Parveen Singh, Aditya Partap Singh and Sahil Gupta contributed 31, 26 and 19 runs to the total respectively. Somay Jain, Sahil and Bandeep Singh shared 2 wickets each, while Manik Gupta and Raman Dutta claimed one wicket each. Manik Gupta was declared man of the match for his fabulous knock.
The matches were officiated by JD Singh and Sadiq Hussain Malik as umpires, while Ajay Sharma and Sunny were the scorers. Dr Karan Nayyar is doing the duty of official physiotherapist.
