SINGAPORE, Oct 13: More than one million Indians visited Singapore last year, making it their top tourist destination in South East Asia.
A total of 1,009,931 Indian tourists visited the City State in 2016, up from 623,391 in 2009, according to data from Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index 2017.
Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur were the second and third holiday destinations on the list.
The number of Indian visitors to Bangkok increased to 795,972 last year from 657,532 in 2009.
However, Indian arrivals to Kuala Lumpur dropped to 717,341 visitors in 2016 from 946,752 in 2009.
The Malaysian capital city was the number one city for Indian travelers in 2009.
Commenting on the increase in Indian travelers, Mastercard Advisors Senior Vice President Eric F.Schneider said India was emerging as a top origin country, particularly for Southeast Asia destinations. (PTI)
