JAMMU, July 17: Singh Cricket Club defeated Singh Challenger Cricket Club by 3 wickets in the finals of the 1st Anil Malhotra Memorial Knockout Cricket Tournament and lifted the title trophy, played at Govt. Higher Secondary School Akhnoor, near here today.
Batting first, Singh Challenger Cricket Club Akhnoor scored 111 by losing all wickets in 15.3 overs. Akash Sharma made 28 runs, while Daksh Jamwal scored 27 runs. From the bowling side, SS Langeh, Sny Mahi and Mendis shared 3 wickets each, whereas Pankaj Verma got 1 wicket.
In reply, Singh CC chased the score easily by losing 7 wickets in 16.3 overs and registered 3 wickets win over Singh Challenger wherein Chandan Sharma scored 33 runs, while Arush Jamwal made 20 runs and Pankaj Verma remained unbeaten on 20 runs, besides Rohit Singh contributed 18 runs.
From the bowling side, Prithvi Raj got 3 wickets, while Rajinder Sharma clinched 2 wickets and Puneet and Suresh Malhotra shared 1 wicket apiece.
Sham Singh Langeh was declared as man of the match, while Prithvi Raj was awarded with man of series and Chandan Sharma and Sham Singh Langeh were declared as best batsman and best bowler respectively.
Sham Lal Sharma, former Minister and BJP senior vice president was the chief guest who distributed prizes among the players along with KD Bhagat (DSP DAR) as guest of honour, whereas Rakesh Malhotra, Dr Kulvir Singh (Directors Shub Tilak Hospital Akhnoor), Sanjay Saraf (President MC Akhnoor were the special guests.
Former Minister praised the organizing committee for organizing such a great event and advised all youths to take part in games and keep themselves away from drugs. Dr Ramesh Manni, Jagdish Bhagat, D.N. Abrol, Dr Sanjeev Sharma, Shilpa Mahajan, Dalvir Singh, Vishnukant Sharma and OP Gupta were present.
Vikas Bali and Dayal Singh were umpires and Dev Bhagel acted as scorer of the final match of the tournament which was organized by Shub Tilak Hospital Akhnoor in collaboration with Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh (President Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor) and Suresh Malhotra (Organizing Secretary).
