Situation improves in Kashmir: DGP

JAMMU, Jan 24: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said today that situation has improved in the Kashmir valley but still threat of militants remain in many areas and added that security forces have been maintaining very high alert along International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC).
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, Dilbag said special security arrangements have been made for Republic Day celebration across the State especially for two main functions in Jammu and Srinagar.

Regarding security arrangements on the border, where militants try to infiltrate for sabotage, the State police chief said earlier also, there had been attempts to breach the borders by the militants and they can attempt infiltration again also. However, he added, security forces are fully alert to foil the infiltration attempts.
Replying to a question on grenade attacks by the militants in Kashmir, Dilbag said the grenade attacks and other violence by the militants was part of their (the militants’) strategy.
However, he disclosed, after two grenade attacks, entire module of the militants involved in the attacks has been busted with six arrests in Srinagar and New Delhi and public has been assured full security.
“Police and security forces have been doing good work and situation will improve further in the Valley,’’ the DGP said.
