JAMMU, Nov 6: Skipper Kanahaiya Wadhawan held his nerves in pressure cooker scenario and played a brilliant innings of 107 runs off 176 balls, while first innings hero Sampark Gupta added 7 more wickets to his kitty and took the match tally to 15 wickets as Jammu and Kashmir got better of Himachal Pradesh by 57 runs in the BCCI’s 2-day Tournament at Chandigarh, today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight total of 56/1, J&K began the day cautiously and the unbeaten duo of Kanahaiya and Musaif Ajaz took the score to 83 runs before the latter was dismissed by Shivam at his individual score of 15 runs. Then it was Kanahaiya all the way to help his team reach a respectable total of 173 runs as none of the other batsman could cross the double figure mark. Kanahaiya was in awesome touch as he hit 17 crispy boundaries in his marathon knock. Thus J&K set a target of 146 runs for the rivals.
Chasing a target of 146 runs in their second essay after the lunch on day-2 today, Himachal batsmen once again failed to negotiate the loop, spin. drift and turn of talented left-arm spinner Sampark Gupta to bundle out for a paltry total of 88 runs, thus lost the match by a margin of 57 runs. Sidhant Dogra, Purah Raj and Ayush Verma contributed 21, 18 and 11 runs to the total respectively. For J&K, Sampark Gupta scalped 7 wickets by conceding 29 runs in his 16 overs, while F Nazir took 2 wickets by giving away 13 runs in 4.2 overs.
