JAMMU, June 2: A young scientist of SKUAST Jammu has identified four minor fruits viz., Bael, Jamun, Karonda and Phalsa that possess anti-cancer potential against human cancer cells from lung, colon, ovarian and prostate origins.
While working on minor fruits of Kandi belt of Jammu district from the last three years, Dr Vikas Sharma, along with his Ph D student, Navneet Kour yielded very interesting and significant consensus from medicinal view point as during the investigation all the four minor fruits confirmed their therapeutic potency especially against lung cancer cells and showed that these fruits possess certain cytotoxic constituents that can be used for developing anti-cancer agents for lung cancer therapy.
